Passengers - Carpool Club

Carpool Club passengers enjoy a door-to-door service for the price of public transport.

The Carpool Club Passenger app connects users to drivers travelling in the same direction – in real-time. No need to plan ahead and pre-book, the app finds someone heading your way at the time you want to travel. All at a cost that is comparable with public transport. Sounds too good to be true.

Where’s my ticket to ride? How do I become a passenger?

Passengers need to register on the Passenger App to participate in the program and agree with the Terms & Conditions of use.  Downloading the App from either the Apple App Store (for iOS) or Google Play (for Android) is free.

Tips for passengers

Making a connection is dependent on there being lots of drivers and passengers using Carpool Club to maximise the chance of making a connection. In Carpool Club passengers pay for trips using TOKENS bought on the app. If more than one passenger travels on a trip each passenger is required to pay the same number of tokens – so there is a benefit to drivers from picking up trips with multiple passengers. So passengers who can find family or friends to take the same trip with them will have a greater chance of getting a connection. Other things that will help is finding a pick-up location where it’s easy for drivers to pick-up and being flexible about the drop-off destination if it helps the driver.

What about kids?

Passengers must be over 18 to participate in Carpool Club. There is a provision for Passengers to have children accompany them for the trip, but in this case the child will also be charged tokens for the trip and it is the adult Passenger’s responsibility to ensure they supply any child restraints or booster seats that may be required by law. How do I book a trip?

Passengers start a trip by using the App to enter their pick-up and destination locations. This is similar to getting directions on Google Maps. The App will advise how many Tokens the trip requires and if the Passenger has enough in their account. Passengers can purchase Tokens in the app if they don’t have enough – no cash is ever exchanged with drivers. Once Passengers have entered their trip the App  seeks drivers  who are travelling a similar route.

What info do I need to provide?

When a Driver accepts a Passenger trip the App provides the following information:

  • First name and a picture of the driver
  • Make, model and colour of the vehicle.
  • An estimate of how long before the Driver arrives
  • The ability to call the Driver

When a trip is successfully completed the Tokens automatically transfer to the Driver’s account.
